Earlier this year we got a call from a homeowner in one of the established Dunnellon neighborhoods near the historic district. Their 1970s-era single-family stick-built home had heavy oak canopy on the north side that had kept the roof and the north-facing walls in permanent shade for decades. Black algae streaks were visible on the asphalt shingle roof from the road, the stucco showed green film up to about six feet on the shaded side, and the concrete driveway had collected years of orange irrigation staining and biological growth. They had been quoted by an out-of-town company that wanted to use high-pressure on the stucco, which would have damaged the original finish, and that had quoted in-water dock work they did not actually have the training to do safely.
We walked the property, explained that we focus on the standard residential exterior cleaning above the waterline (and recommended a specialized marine contractor for the dock work they wanted), and gave them one written quote covering the house, the roof, and the driveway.
