5-star Google rating, Licensed & Insured, Certified, Serving Marion County Since 2023.
Starr’s & Stripes PowerWash provides certified soft wash and pressure washing to Dunnellon homes throughout the historic Old Boom Town city and the surrounding Marion County areas. Family-owned Ocala-based crew, 25 minutes northeast on SR-40 or US-41. Historic home specialists. Honest written pricing before any work begins. No travel fees inside Dunnellon. Note: we do not perform dock or seawall work on Rainbow River or Withlacoochee River properties.

Dunnellon sits at the confluence of the Rainbow River and the Withlacoochee River in northwest Marion County, about 25 miles southwest of Ocala. The city covers approximately 9 square miles with around 2,000 residents, founded in 1887 and incorporated in 1891 during the original Florida phosphate mining boom. The river confluence and the surrounding limestone springs, longleaf pine, and cypress hammock create a moisture-rich environment that feeds algae growth more aggressively than the drier inland Marion County communities. Heavy oak canopy in the historic district keeps north-facing roofs and walls in permanent shade and dampness. The result is properties that develop visible algae streaks, green stucco film, and orange irrigation staining faster than homes in dry inland neighborhoods.
Most Dunnellon homeowners know exterior cleaning is overdue but put it off because of past bad experiences. A rental pressure washer from the hardware store is cheap, but it usually does not kill the algae at the root and it can damage older wood siding, vinyl panels on manufactured homes, vent caps, and window seals. A budget out-of-town crew that does not return calls is no better. A bad professional job is worse than no job at all. Doing it right with the correct method and a fair written price up front is almost always the cheapest option over the long run, especially for properties built across multiple eras of Dunnellon’s 130-plus year history.
Reach out by phone, text, or our online form. Most estimates come back the same day. We ask about your home type (historic, modern stick-built, or manufactured) and which part of Dunnellon you live in, because the right cleaning approach depends on both. You get a written price before any water hits your property. No bait-and-switch. No mystery add-ons.
Our certified crew arrives with commercial-grade equipment and the training to know which technique belongs on which surface. Historic homes get gentle low-pressure soft wash that protects original materials. Modern stick-built homes get certified soft wash on the stucco or vinyl siding. Manufactured homes get a specialized low-pressure approach. Asphalt shingle roofs get ARMA-approved technique that protects the manufacturer warranty. You do not need to be home. We text updates and send after-photos when complete.
Certified soft wash kills algae and mold at the root, not just on the surface. Most Dunnellon homes only need this service every 12 to 18 months. The result is a property that looks the way you remember it looking, with the kind of curb appeal that holds your home value over time.
Dunnellon is one of the oldest cities in Marion County, with a distinct identity shaped by its 1887 settlement, the phosphate mining boom that built it in the 1890s and 1900s, the historic district that survived the bust, and the Rainbow River that draws kayakers and divers from across the state. The city has its own character, its own pace, and its own zip codes (34431 and 34432). Most Dunnellon residents have noticed that Ocala-based service companies often treat the city as an afterthought. We do not. We work Dunnellon properties on a regular schedule and we know what makes the community different from the rest of Marion County.

Dunnellon's Old Boom Town historic district includes homes that date back to the original 1887 settlement and the early 1900s phosphate boom. These older homes may have wood siding, original paint surfaces, aging window frames, and other elements that high-pressure washing would damage in minutes. Some historic homes have undergone partial renovations over the decades, mixing original materials with newer additions, which means the cleaning approach has to be customized to the actual surfaces in front of us. Our low-pressure soft wash technique with biodegradable detergent cleans these older surfaces without damaging the original materials or the integrity of historic construction.

Beyond the historic district, Dunnellon includes mid-century and newer single-family construction across the city. These homes use more conventional materials including stucco over concrete block, vinyl siding on frame construction, and asphalt shingle roofing. The cleaning approach for these homes is the same certified soft wash we use throughout Marion County, calibrated to the actual surface materials and age of the home.

Dunnellon and the surrounding rural Marion County area include a meaningful share of mobile and manufactured homes alongside conventional single-family homes. Manufactured homes need a different cleaning approach than stick-built. The vinyl and aluminum siding panels common to manufactured construction can be damaged by high-pressure water, vent caps can crack, and the seals around windows and doors can be forced open. Our low-pressure soft wash method is designed specifically for manufactured home exteriors.

Worth saying directly because the question comes up: Starr's & Stripes does not perform dock cleaning, seawall cleaning, boathouse cleaning, or any in-water work on Rainbow River or Withlacoochee River properties. The Rainbow River is a spring-fed waterway and the environmental sensitivity of the river system is part of what makes Dunnellon distinctive. Dock and seawall work requires specialized contractors with the right equipment and training to handle in-water cleaning responsibly. If you need dock or seawall work, we recommend contacting a specialized marine contractor. We focus on the standard residential exterior work we are trained to do well: house washing, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, lanai care, and pre-listing service.

Dunnellon proper is small (about 2,000 residents in a 9 square mile footprint), but the surrounding area includes two major subdivisions that we also serve. Rainbow Springs is the large Marion County subdivision north of the city, with several thousand homes built in distinct construction phases. Citrus Springs is the large Citrus County subdivision south of the city, also with several thousand homes. Most Dunnellon-area exterior cleaning work happens not in the historic city itself but in these surrounding subdivisions. We treat both as standard service areas.
Every service is delivered by Randy and Matt personally with commercial-grade equipment and certified technique. We do not subcontract.

Earlier this year we got a call from a homeowner in one of the established Dunnellon neighborhoods near the historic district. Their 1970s-era single-family stick-built home had heavy oak canopy on the north side that had kept the roof and the north-facing walls in permanent shade for decades. Black algae streaks were visible on the asphalt shingle roof from the road, the stucco showed green film up to about six feet on the shaded side, and the concrete driveway had collected years of orange irrigation staining and biological growth. They had been quoted by an out-of-town company that wanted to use high-pressure on the stucco, which would have damaged the original finish, and that had quoted in-water dock work they did not actually have the training to do safely.
We walked the property, explained that we focus on the standard residential exterior cleaning above the waterline (and recommended a specialized marine contractor for the dock work they wanted), and gave them one written quote covering the house, the roof, and the driveway. Soft washed the stucco with the right chemistry that preserved the original color. Treated the roof with ARMA-approved technique that killed the algae at the root and protected the shingle warranty. Surface cleaned the driveway with the right rotary equipment. The work took one full day. The homeowner put us on a 12-month rotation because of the heavy canopy exposure and recommended us to two neighbors the following month. That is how most of our Dunnellon work happens. One driveway, one neighbor, one Old Boom Town street at a time.

Most Dunnellon homes benefit from professional exterior cleaning every 12 to 18 months. Homes under heavy oak canopy or with extensive river-area pollen exposure may need service every 6 to 12 months because the moisture environment around the Rainbow River and Withlacoochee River feeds algae growth more aggressively than drier inland areas. We can recommend a schedule based on your specific lot.
